Carter Berger scored the winning goal in the second minute of overtime as HKM Zvolen edged HK Nitra 5-4 in a thrilling Tipsport Liga contest on Sunday, March 1, 2026. Despite the loss, Nitra had already clinched the top spot in the league’s regular season standings.

Lunter opened the scoring for Zvolen at the 20-minute mark, assisted by Berger and Kudrna. Durandeau extended the lead at 24 minutes with a goal from Cassels. Nitra responded quickly with goals from Krištof and Lacka, both assisted by Čederle and Passolt, tying the game before the end of the first period. Buček then put Nitra ahead at 36 minutes, with assists from Paulovič and Mezei.

Kudrna leveled the score for Zvolen at 46 minutes, assisted by Lunter and Šramaty. Hrnka regained the lead for Nitra at 49 minutes, with assists from Kováč and Graham. Kudrna then scored again at 60 minutes, assisted by Berger and Cassels, forcing overtime. Berger completed the comeback with the game-winning goal at 62 minutes, assisted by Marcinek and Hecl.

The game, played before a crowd of 2026, saw Zvolen end Nitra’s nine-game winning streak. The officials were T. Orolin and Crman, with Bezák and M. Orolin serving as linesmen. There were four penalties assessed to Zvolen and six to Nitra, with no power play or shorthanded goals scored.

The win gives Zvolen a valuable two points as the regular season nears its conclusion. Nitra, however, remains firmly in control of the league standings, having already secured the top seed.
