HONOR is challenging the smartphone status quo with the European launch of its flagship Magic 8 Pro. The new device arrives as the company intensifies its push into the competitive premium market, betting on advanced artificial intelligence features and high-end camera technology to attract consumers. Featuring the latest Snapdragon processor and a robust AI-powered imaging system, the Magic 8 Pro aims to deliver a compelling option to established industry leaders like Samsung and Apple, and is currently priced at €1,299. Beyond the core phone, HONOR is also emphasizing a broader ecosystem of connected devices and services to enhance the user experience.
HONOR has launched the HONOR Magic 8 Pro in Europe, marking the Chinese manufacturer’s latest attempt to gain ground in the premium smartphone market. The device features a 200-megapixel camera powered by artificial intelligence, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, and a dedicated AI agent. This launch positions HONOR to compete directly with established players like Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi.
At the heart of the HONOR Magic 8 Pro’s imaging capabilities is the AiMAGE system, which combines advanced computational optics with deep learning algorithms. The phone boasts a 200MP telephoto camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor and f/2.6 aperture, alongside a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide lens. HONOR says this combination is designed to improve low-light photography and lossless zoom, while an AI-powered adaptive stabilization system promises up to a sevenfold improvement in image clarity when shooting handheld.
Beyond the hardware, the Magic 8 Pro introduces the Magic Color processor, enabling cinematic styles and automatic color grading based on reference images. This feature leverages cloud connectivity to facilitate professional-level editing directly on the device. A dedicated AI button allows quick access to functions like AI Eraser and AI Cutout, even without unlocking the phone.
The Magic 8 Pro also integrates a local AI agent operating within MagicOS 10. This system learns from user context, automatically adjusts settings, and provides responses via voice or text. Security features include deepfake and voice cloning detection, aimed at protecting real-time communications. Pre-installed Google Gemini further expands the device’s conversational abilities, offering live translation and real-time visual recognition. The integration of powerful AI features reflects a broader trend of embedding intelligence directly into mobile devices.
Powering the Magic 8 Pro is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, offering improvements in both processing power and energy efficiency compared to its predecessor. A 6,270 mAh silicon-carbon battery, coupled with 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging, aims to provide all-day battery life. The device features a 6.71-inch LTPO OLED display with a peak brightness of up to 6,000 nits in HDR, and incorporates eye comfort technologies like a 4,320Hz PWM dimming and circadian modes.
MagicOS 10 introduces a translucent interface and more tactile interactions, with light and sound effects responding to user activity. HONOR Share has been enhanced to allow bidirectional transfers between Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows devices. A device cloning feature enables data migration from iPhones, including photos, notes, and reminders, with end-to-end encryption.
The device is available in three colors – Sunrise Gold, Sky Cyan, and Black – with a price of 1,299 euros. HONOR is offering a promotional bundle that includes an HONOR Pad 10 with a keyboard, an HONOR CHOICE Pencil, a Watch 5, Earbuds Clip, and a 100W charger, valued at 806.8 euros according to the company.
While HONOR has been steadily increasing its presence in the Spanish market since its relaunch in 2021, the premium segment remains dominated by brands with larger market share. The focus on computational photography and integrated AI could differentiate the Magic 8 Pro, but the extent to which consumers will adopt these features remains to be seen. The integration of Gemini and the emphasis on local AI processing suggest a convergence of hardware and software that is still evolving.
The availability of the device and its accessories reinforces HONOR’s strategy of building a comprehensive user experience, though competition in this area is intensifying. The European market’s response to this launch in the coming months will be crucial in determining its impact.
