Shipping giant Maersk has suspended deliveries through the Strait of Hormuz, the company announced Sunday.
The decision comes one day after the United States and Israel attacked Iran, which subsequently responded with attacks on targets in several countries.
“The safety of our crews, vessels and customers remains our top priority,” the Danish company stated, adding that the announcement is valid until further notice. This move by Maersk underscores the escalating tensions in the region and the potential disruption to global trade flows.
Since the outbreak of violence on Saturday, reports have emerged suggesting that Iran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane for oil exports from Gulf nations.
