Škoda has issued a recall for its latest generation Kodiaq model, impacting 49,766 vehicles globally due to a potential issue with the side airbags. The recall affects vehicles produced between August 21, 2024 and December 8, 2025.
The issue, while not related to the widely publicized Takata airbag scandal that affected millions of vehicles worldwide, centers on the design of the front seat frames. According to the automaker, a sharp edge on the seat frame could potentially damage the airbag’s covering during side impact deployment. A compromised airbag – either failing to deploy correctly or rupturing – could increase the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
Germany will see the largest number of vehicles affected, with 12,311 Kodiaq owners being asked to bring their cars in for service. Škoda reports that, to date, no accidents or injuries have been linked to this defect.
The fix is relatively straightforward, involving the attachment of a protective material to the frame of both front seats. This addition prevents potential friction and safeguards the airbag from damage. The repair is expected to take approximately two hours to complete.
This recall comes as automakers continue to prioritize vehicle safety and proactively address potential defects. Škoda’s swift action underscores the industry’s commitment to minimizing risk for consumers.
