New Delhi – India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has been engaged in a series of diplomatic talks with key leaders in the Middle East as tensions escalate following a joint military operation by the United States and Israel against Iran. The discussions focused on ensuring the safety of Indian citizens and maintaining stability in a region critical to India’s economic and security interests.

Jaishankar spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday, February 29, 2026, expressing India’s concern over recent developments, according to statements released by the Ministry of External Affairs. He also held conversations with his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Sa’ar, and counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

The flurry of diplomatic activity comes after the U.S. And Israel launched a military offensive against Iran, prompting retaliatory strikes from Iran targeting U.S. Allies in the region, as reported by Business Standard. The situation has raised concerns about potential disruptions to vital trade routes and energy supplies.

During his conversations, Jaishankar emphasized the need for de-escalation and a return to dialogue, reiterating India’s long-held position that all parties should exercise restraint and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, according to the Economic Times. The minister’s outreach underscores India’s commitment to regional stability.

India has a significant diaspora and substantial economic interests in the Gulf region, making the situation particularly sensitive. India TV News reported that New Delhi is closely monitoring the situation and prepared to take necessary steps to protect its citizens abroad.
