The draw for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2026 has placed the Indonesia U-17 national team in a challenging Group B alongside Japan, China, and Qatar.

The grouping was determined following the official draw held by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Japan is expected to be Indonesia’s toughest opponent in the group, entering the tournament as a strong favorite to advance from Group B. The team’s pedigree and consistent performance make them a formidable challenge.

China also presents a familiar challenge for Indonesia, having recently faced off against Mierza Firjatullah and his teammates in two friendly matches held in Tangerang.

Despite the tough draw, Indonesia has shown potential for upsets, having reached the quarterfinal stage in the previous edition of the tournament before falling to North Korea.

The draw finalized four groups of four teams each, comprising the 16 participating nations in the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2026, which will be hosted in Saudi Arabia.

The Indonesia U-17 national team secured automatic qualification for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2026 alongside eight other nations after successfully qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025.

Thailand is the other Southeast Asian representative, drawn into Group A with Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Myanmar.

Vietnam will compete in Group C alongside South Korea, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates, while Group D features Uzbekistan, Australia, India, and North Korea.
