Jakarta – The Indonesian government announced today a series of economic initiatives designed to bolster domestic tourism and sustain growth in the first quarter of 2026. Key among these is a limited “work from anywhere” policy slated for mid-March and late March, timed to coincide with both the nyepi Day of Silence and the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr. Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto detailed the plan-which includes substantial discounts on transportation-following remarks at the annual Financial Services Industry Meeting in Jakarta on Thursday.

Indonesia’s government is planning to implement a “work from anywhere” (WFA) policy in the coming weeks, alongside continued economic stimulus measures, according to Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto.

The initiative will initially be rolled out from March 16-17, and again from March 25-27, coinciding with the Nyepi holiday and the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

This move aims to boost domestic tourism and provide flexibility for workers during peak travel periods. The announcement comes as the Indonesian government seeks to maintain economic momentum in the first quarter of the year.

“So, if I may reveal it, work from anywhere will be on March 16-17, March 25, 26, and 27,” Hartarto stated during his remarks at the Annual Financial Services Industry Meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

In addition to the WFA policy, the government will extend existing stimulus programs into the first quarter of this year, including transportation discounts and social assistance programs. These measures are intended to support consumer spending and economic activity.

“We will repeat the transportation stimulus and the social assistance stimulus in the first quarter, and we will also provide work from anywhere,” Hartarto explained.

The government will offer a 30% discount on train and ship fares, while air travel will be discounted by 17-18%, he added. “This is expected to allow for good holiday planning,” Hartarto said.
