A Slovakian couple’s dream trip to Bali has become entangled in accusations of fraud against prominent travel influencer Dominik Papcun. papcun, known online as “Nick Papcun,” offered to secure discounted flights, but allegedly failed to deliver the tickets after receiving €1,774 from the pair. The case sheds light on a concerning trend of consumers trusting social media personalities with notable financial transactions, and raises questions about accountability within the burgeoning influencer marketing landscape. Authorities have reportedly begun investigating multiple claims against Papcun, alleging a pattern of unfulfilled promises and financial discrepancies.

Two friends hoping to travel to Bali turned to a well-known social media personality after struggling to navigate the complexities of booking flights to exotic destinations.

They believed him, swayed by his online presence – boasting over 35,000 followers on Instagram – and a positive recommendation they had received.

The pair transferred €1,774 to Papcun’s account to cover the cost of the tickets, but the flights were never delivered, and the money was not refunded.

Papcun initially gained recognition as a travel influencer, offering discounted access to airport lounges. He later organized several trips for Slovakian tour operators and began offering customized vacation packages for a fee.

However, the business quickly unraveled. While Papcun maintains he was simply trying to help people travel more affordably, allegations of questionable practices have surfaced in recent weeks.

These include a lack of transparency, manipulative tactics, unfulfilled promises, falsified bank statements, and debts totaling thousands of euros.

“I think the vast majority of people who asked me for something regarding flights or accommodation actually did end up going somewhere,” Papcun stated in a recent interview, when contacted by phone.

From Lounges to Flights

Papcun initially built his brand around engaging travel content, showcasing travel hacks and demonstrating how to travel affordably, particularly to exotic destinations.

He soon expanded his offerings to include the sale of access to airport lounges, where he first encountered difficulties. This case highlights the growing risks associated with relying on social media influencers for travel arrangements, as consumers increasingly seek personalized experiences.
