Intel Arc graphics card owners are gaining access to cutting-edge upscaling technology sooner than expected. A workaround discovered by the gaming community allows users to enable XeSS 3 with Multi Frame Generation on a wider range of Arc GPUs than initially supported by Intel, who had previously limited the feature to its newest integrated graphics. The modification, detailed below, involves swapping DLL files within the Arc graphics driver [[1]].
Gamers have discovered a workaround to enable Intel’s latest XeSS 3 upscaling technology, including its new Multi Frame Generation feature, on a wider range of Arc graphics cards than initially intended. While Intel initially limited XeSS 3 with Multi Frame Generation to its integrated Xe3 graphics found in the Core Ultra Series 3 (“Panther Lake”) processors, enthusiasts have found a way to unlock the feature on Arc GPUs equipped with dedicated Xe Matrix Extensions (XMX).
The modification involves swapping out specific DLL files within the Arc graphics driver, as VideoCardz reports. This allows users to experience the benefits of XeSS 3’s advanced upscaling capabilities on existing Arc hardware.
Intel plans to officially expand support for XeSS 3 with Multi Frame Generation to additional Arc graphics cards later this month. However, users in the r/IntelArc subreddit took matters into their own hands, seeking to access the technology sooner.

XeSS 3 builds upon the same core algorithm as XeSS 2, with the key addition being Multi Frame Generation. To enable the technology on Arc graphics cards with Xe (“Alchemist”) and Xe2 (“Battlemage”) architectures, users can follow these steps:
- Download the latest Intel graphics driver package.
- Extract the driver package using 7-Zip into a folder.
- Open the 8362 folder.
- Locate the files igxell.dll and igxess_fg.dll.
- Copy both DLLs into the 8452 folder, overwriting any existing files.
- Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to remove the current graphics driver and the Intel Graphics Software (IGS).
- Install the driver from the extracted folder, ignoring any warning messages during installation.
- Optional step per game (as mentioned in the thread):
- Rename the DLLs from ig* to lib* (e.g., igxell.dll → libxell.dll, igxess_fg.dll → libxess_fg.dll).
- Copy the renamed DLLs into the directory of the respective game, replacing any existing files if necessary.
Upscaling technologies like XeSS are becoming increasingly important as developers push the boundaries of visual fidelity in games, allowing for higher resolutions and frame rates even on less powerful hardware. Here are some impressions from our editor Richard Engel at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. He was thoroughly impressed with the Intel Arc B390 and its high performance.
