Months ago, reports indicated that Apple is prioritizing bug fixes and software quality with iOS 27, with fewer resources dedicated to introducing new features. While the major iOS update of 2026 will include some new additions, it’s not expected to be as extensive as iOS 26, which featured a complete design overhaul. That new design, still, proved problematic for some users, introducing glitches and other issues alongside its aesthetic changes.
‘iOS 27 to Bring Improved Battery Life’
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reported in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple intends to address these issues with iOS 27. Over the years, the operating system has become somewhat cluttered with additions, contributing to the problems experienced by some users. By undertaking a major cleanup, Apple plans to remove unused code and reprogram functions, as well as update apps for improved performance.
These code changes could also result in a more efficient system potentially leading to longer battery life for users. Whether Apple will actively promote this as a key benefit of iOS 27 remains to be seen. Apple has historically been reluctant to highlight battery life improvements as a primary feature of iOS updates, typically focusing on performance and bug fixes, with extended battery life as a secondary benefit. It’s possible that any gains in battery life will be discovered through user experience rather than direct marketing from Apple.
iOS 27, along with iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, macOS 27, and more, is expected to launch later this year. The announcement of the update will take place during WWDC 2026, typically held in June. Beta versions will follow in the summer, with the official releases scheduled for September.
