Apple has announced the launch of a new iPhone model, the iPhone 17e, which the company says “enriches the iPhone 17 range with a powerful and more affordable model.”

The smartphone features a next-generation A19 chip and a new-generation cellular modem designed by Apple, which is “up to twice as fast” as the modem in the iPhone 16e. It likewise includes a 48-megapixel camera, a 2x optical-quality telephoto lens, and a 6.1-inch display.

“The iPhone 17e can also take next-generation portraits,” Apple assures. “It recognizes people, dogs, and cats, and automatically records depth information, allowing users to transform photos into beautiful portraits with a blurred background and adjust the focus in the Photos app after the shot is taken.”

Available March 11

In terms of battery life, the model “offers a full day of autonomy,” Apple indicates, specifying that with USB-C charging, the iPhone can reach 50% charge in about 30 minutes.

Like other iPhone 17 models, the 17e will integrate Apple’s AI, “Apple Intelligence,” which allows users “to communicate in multiple languages using Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone, as well as with AirPods.”

The model will be available in three colors: black, white, and pastel pink. Pre-orders will begin on Wednesday, March 4, with availability starting on Wednesday, March 11, in 70 countries including France.

“The iPhone 17e will be offered with a base storage of 256GB at an Apple resale price of €719, which is double the starting capacity of the previous generation for the same price and four times the capacity compared to the iPhone 12,” Apple details in a press release.

“Our customers want a product that lasts, and the iPhone 17e has everything it needs to meet their expectations. With the A19 chip guaranteeing incredible performance, a doubled starting storage capacity, a smarter camera system, and enhanced durability, the iPhone 17e is designed to be fast, powerful, and secure, for many years to come,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing.

Apple is expanding its iPhone 17 lineup with a new, more accessible model, the iPhone 17e, set to launch on March 11. The introduction of a mid-range option signals a strategic move to cater to a broader consumer base whereas maintaining Apple’s premium brand positioning.

The iPhone 17e boasts a next-generation A19 chip and a newly designed cellular modem, promising speeds up to twice that of the iPhone 16e. This upgrade in processing power and connectivity underscores Apple’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge performance in all its devices. The phone also features a 48MP camera system with a 2x optical telephoto lens, and a 6.1-inch display.

Apple is also highlighting the iPhone 17e’s advanced portrait capabilities. The device utilizes intelligent scene recognition to identify people, dogs, and cats, automatically capturing depth information for stunning portrait shots. Users can even adjust the focus *after* taking the picture, offering greater creative control.

The company states the iPhone 17e will provide all-day battery life, and supports fast charging via USB-C, reaching a 50% charge in approximately 30 minutes. The device will also integrate Apple Intelligence, enabling real-time translation across various Apple applications, including Messages, FaceTime, Phone, and AirPods.

Available in black, white, and pastel pink, the iPhone 17e will be available for pre-order starting March 4. The base model, equipped with 256GB of storage, will retail for €719 – doubling the entry-level storage of the previous generation at the same price point, and quadrupling the storage offered by the iPhone 12.
