Iran Nuclear Talks: US-Iran Negotiations Resume in Geneva

Geneva, Switzerland – High-stakes negotiations between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program resumed in Geneva on Monday, February 16, 2026, as the U.S. Continues to increase its military presence in the region. The talks aim to de-escalate tensions and prevent a potential military confrontation, a scenario Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned could escalate into a wider regional conflict.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Geneva expressing a desire to reach a “fair and equitable deal,” stating on X, “I am in Geneva with real ideas to achieve a fair and equitable deal.” He added, “What is not on the table: submission before threats.” Al Jazeera reports that this marks the second round of negotiations between the two countries this month.

Prior to the meeting with U.S. Officials, Araghchi met with Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). According to reports, the Iranian delegation anticipates a “deep technical discussion” regarding the country’s nuclear program. U.S. News & World Report details that the IAEA has been seeking access to Iran’s nuclear facilities, which were damaged during a 12-day conflict involving the U.S. And Israel in June.

Tehran has indicated potential risks of radiation and has requested an official protocol for inspecting highly enriched uranium believed to be buried under rubble. The Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed that the U.S. And Iran would hold a second round of talks this week, the Associated Press reported. The development underscores the ongoing international efforts to address concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and prevent further instability in the Middle East.

These negotiations are taking place against a backdrop of increased U.S. Military deployment to the region, including the presence of two aircraft carriers. The talks also follow a meeting earlier this month in Muscat, Oman, involving Iranian, and U.S. Negotiators, as well as officials from Oman. La Repubblica reported that Iran indicated a willingness to allow access to its nuclear sites.
