TEHERAN – Iran, Russia, and China are scheduled to conduct joint naval exercises in the northern Indian Ocean later this month, amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington. The drills, set to begin at the end of February, signal a deepening of military cooperation between the three nations.

The exercise, named “Marine Security Belt,” will involve units from the Iranian Navy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGC), and the naval forces of China and Russia.

According to officials, the purpose of the exercise is to enhance maritime security and strengthen cooperation among the participating countries. The development underscores growing strategic alignment between Tehran, Beijing, and Moscow.

First launched in 2019 by the Iranian Navy, the Marine Security Belt exercise has been held seven times, highlighting the sustained military coordination between Tehran, Beijing, and Moscow in regional and international waters.

Previous iterations of the exercise have included operations such as search and rescue missions, maritime security maneuvers, and coordination drills.

Forces from Iran, Russia, and China will conduct the joint naval exercise in an area near Iran’s Chabahar Port, further demonstrating a commitment to closer military collaboration.
