UN Human Rights Council to Hold Emergency Meeting on Iranian Strikes in the Gulf
Alerte
The United Nations Human Rights Council will convene an emergency session on Wednesday to discuss recent strikes by Iran across several Gulf nations and the resulting impact on human rights in the region, the UN announced.
The meeting comes as international concern grows over escalating tensions in the Middle East following a series of retaliatory attacks. A spokesperson for the Human Rights Council, Pascal Sim, stated during a press briefing in Geneva on Tuesday that “a group of countries intends to present a draft resolution to the Council within the framework of this urgent debate.”
The proposed resolution will focus on “the consequences on human rights of the attack perpetrated by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan,” Sim specified. The development underscores the potential for widespread regional instability and the need for a diplomatic resolution.
