Israel Calls on Lebanon to Take Concrete Action Against Hezbollah
Israel is urging Lebanon to take “concrete and significant measures” against Hezbollah, the Iran-aligned political and military organization, as regional tensions continue to escalate. The call from Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar comes amid heightened scrutiny of Hezbollah’s role within the Lebanese government, where it holds two ministerial positions.
According to a message posted on X, Saar stated, “We call on the Lebanese government to take concrete and significant measures against Hezbollah, whose ministers are still sitting in its midst.” This followed Israel’s approval of Lebanon’s decision to expel Iran’s newly appointed ambassador to Beirut, who was nominated in February.
Currently, Rakan Nassereddine serves as Lebanon’s Minister of Public Health and Mohammad Haidar holds the position of Minister of Labor, both affiliated with Hezbollah. The development underscores the complex political landscape in Lebanon and the challenges of addressing the influence of Hezbollah, which has been involved in numerous conflicts with Israel over the decades.
The Israeli request for action against Hezbollah comes as the region grapples with broader instability, including the ongoing conflict between the United States and Israel against Iran. The announcement could influence future diplomatic talks and efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.
