The Jalisco state government has affirmed that the region “is calm” amid circulating rumors of potential violence. The reassurance comes after the spread of misinformation suggesting unrest provoked by criminal groups, though authorities report no evidence of such activity.
Authorities are urging residents not to share unverified information circulating on messaging apps like WhatsApp, and instead to rely on official channels for updates.

“The Government of Jalisco informs that the state is calm and with its normal activities underway. Security corporations are maintaining their regular tasks and protocols,” officials stated on social media.
The government’s statement follows reports of potential unrest linked to the alleged transfer of the body of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” to a cemetery in the municipality of Zapopan. The Jalisco government is working to dispel these rumors and maintain public order.

Mexican Army personnel and state police are maintaining a visible presence at the cemetery, located at the intersection of Santa Margarita and Aviación avenues, conducting surveillance patrols. This increased security is a precautionary measure to prevent any potential security incidents.
The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) announced February 28, 2026, that the body of “El Mencho” had been released to his family, nearly a week after he was killed in a military operation in the municipality of Tapalpa on February 24, 2026. That operation triggered roadblocks and clashes throughout the state.
