Indonesian consumers will see updated rates for prepaid electricity tokens starting January 5, 2026, as announced by state-owned utility PLN. The new pricing structure, detailed below, applies to a range of customer types – from residential to industrial – and is based on voltage amperage. These adjustments reflect ongoing fluctuations in energy costs and aim to maintain equitable access to power across the archipelago.

Indonesia’s state-owned electricity provider, PLN, has announced updated pricing for prepaid electricity tokens, effective January 5-11, 2026.

Customers can purchase electricity tokens in various denominations, ranging from Rp 5,000 to Rp 1 million, to meet their individual energy needs. These tokens are then entered into electricity meters to provide power.

Purchased tokens are converted into kilowatt-hours (kWh), with the amount displayed on the meter after input. The cost of these tokens varies depending on customer type – residential, business, or industrial – and voltage amperage (VA).

The updated pricing structure reflects ongoing adjustments to energy costs and aims to ensure equitable access to electricity across different consumer segments. This announcement comes as energy markets worldwide continue to face volatility.

How Many kWh Can You Get for Rp 50,000?

The nominal value of the purchased token will also be subject to Regional Lighting Tax (PPJ) according to local government policies.

For example, the PPJ rates in Jakarta are as follows:

  • Up to 2,200 VA: 2.4 percent
  • 3,500-5,500 VA: 3 percent
  • 6,600 VA and above: 4 percent.

The formula for calculating the amount of kWh obtained is as follows:

  • (Token Nominal – Regional PPJ) : Basic Electricity Tariff = kWh Obtained.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown of the kWh obtained for a Rp 50,000 token purchase for each residential customer group (non-subsidized) in Jakarta:

  • Residential power 900 VA
    • (Rp 50,000 – 2.4 percent) : Rp 1,352 = kWh obtained
    • (Rp 50,000 – Rp 1,200) : Rp 1,352 = kWh obtained
    • Rp 48,800 : Rp 1,352 = kWh obtained
    • Rp 48,800 : Rp 1,352 = 36.09 kWh.
  • Residential power 1,300-2,200 VA
    • (Rp 50,000 – 2.4 percent) : Rp 1,444.70 = kWh obtained
    • (Rp 50,000 – Rp 1,200) : Rp 1,444.70 = kWh obtained
    • Rp 48,800 : Rp 1,444.70 = kWh obtained
    • Rp 48,800 : Rp 1,444.70 = 33.78 kWh.
  • Residential power 3,500-5,500 VA
    • (Rp 50,000 – 3 percent) : Rp 1,699.53 = kWh obtained
    • (Rp 50,000 – Rp 1,500) : Rp 1,699.53 = kWh obtained
    • Rp 48,500 : Rp 1,699.53 = kWh obtained
    • Rp 48,500 : Rp 1,699.53 = 28.54 kWh.
  • Residential power 6,600 VA and above
    • (Rp 50,000 – 4 percent) : Rp 1,699.53 = kWh obtained
    • (Rp 50,000 – Rp 2,000) : Rp 1,699.53 = kWh obtained
    • Rp 48,000 : Rp 1,699.53 = kWh obtained
    • Rp 48,000 : Rp 1,699.53 = 28.24 kWh.
