March 7 to March 26, 2026
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Self-taught painter Jean-Michel Méar, based in Gouesnou, France, is showcasing vibrant and warmly colored seascapes at Galerie 18.
Méar imbues the houses and lighthouses he depicts with a charmingly naive and weathered quality. His lighthouses, seemingly battered by the strong winds of Brittany, lean towards the sea. The interplay of shadows, reflections, and light, rendered in an explosion of color, brings a dynamic energy to his work.
Drawing inspiration from iconic regional landmarks, Méar presents his vision of locations like Meneham, the Virgin Lighthouse, and the Eckmühl Lighthouse, working on both canvas and reclaimed wood. The artist’s use of recycled materials adds another layer to his artistic statement.
The exhibition at Galerie 18 offers a glimpse into the artistic world of Jean-Michel Méar, whose work captures the essence of the Breton coastline. His paintings are gaining recognition for their unique style and evocative depictions of the region’s beloved sites, as evidenced by the gallery’s presence on Facebook and recent Reels showcasing his art.
