The estate of Jeffrey Epstein has agreed to a settlement potentially reaching $35 million to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging that two of his advisors aided in his sex trafficking crimes, according to a court filing on Thursday.
The deal, if approved by a judge, would conclude a 2024 lawsuit targeting Epstein’s former personal lawyer, Darren Indyke, and former accountant, Richard Kahn, who both serve as co-executors of Epstein’s estate.
This settlement follows a previous restitution fund established by Epstein’s estate that distributed $121 million to victims, as well as an additional $49 million in settlements. The case highlights the ongoing legal fallout from Epstein’s crimes and the efforts to hold those who enabled him accountable.
Law firm Boies Schiller Flexner, representing Epstein’s victims, announced the agreement in a brief filed in Manhattan federal court.
According to a statement from their lawyer, Daniel H. Weiner, neither Indyke nor Kahn “made any admission or concession of misconduct” as part of the settlement. “As they did nothing wrong, the co-executors were prepared to fight the claims against them through to trial, but agreed to mediate and settle this lawsuit in order to achieve finality as to any potential claims against the Epstein Estate,” Weiner said.
The settlement will provide “a confidential avenue for financial relief” for victims who haven’t already reached agreements with the estate. Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in August 2019.
Beyond the U.S., investigations into Epstein’s network have revealed connections in Europe, including France. Reports indicate Epstein attempted to establish a scientific institute on the Île Saint-Louis in Paris. He similarly reportedly sought to purchase the Château de Villette in the Val-d’Oise region, famously used as a filming location for “The Da Vinci Code.”
Further investigations have revealed Epstein traveled frequently between Paris and Geneva by train, and cultivated relationships with prominent figures in France. One former French architect who worked with Epstein has recently provided testimony regarding his activities.
According to reports, Epstein once remarked, “If you want to play in Paris…” suggesting the importance he placed on establishing a presence in the city.
