A Jet2 flight traveling from Antalya, Turkey, to Manchester, England, was forced to make an emergency landing in Brussels on Friday night after a brawl broke out between passengers. The incident underscores the increasing challenges airlines face in managing disruptive behavior in the air.
According to reports, the altercation began following a dispute stemming from alleged racist remarks made onboard the LS896 flight. The argument quickly escalated into a physical fight, prompting intervention from the cabin crew.
Despite the crew’s efforts, the fighting continued, leading the pilot to divert the aircraft to Brussels Airport. Police boarded the plane and detained two passengers involved in the disturbance. Jet2 has banned both individuals from future flights with the airline.
“TWO PASSENGERS ARE BEING PENALIZED WITH A LIFETIME BAN”
Jet2 released a statement regarding the incident, saying, “Our flight LS896 from Antalya to Manchester was diverted to Brussels due to the unacceptable behavior of two passengers. These two passengers were removed by police and our flight continued to Manchester. We are penalizing these passengers with a lifetime flying ban. We will also be recovering all costs associated with this diversion.”
The airline added, “As a family-friendly airline, we have zero tolerance for disruptive behavior that affects the safety and well-being of our customers and crew.” A video of the incident was reportedly captured by another passenger on the flight.
