German television personality Jochen Schropp has confirmed his separation from husband Norman. The news comes after a period of uncertainty for the couple, and Schropp publicly addressed the split Thursday at the Berlinale film festival. “Norman will always have a place in my heart, but it’s better this way for now,” Schropp stated at the Berlinale opening event held at the Hotel S/O Berlin.

Schropp initially announced a trial separation in September, and later removed his wedding ring. He explained that the initial separation wasn’t his decision, admitting that they hadn’t been spending enough quality time together as a couple, but had held onto hope for reconciliation. Now, it appears a final decision has been made to end the relationship.

The breakup is clearly taking a toll on Schropp. In an interview with “Bunte,” he openly shared, “I don’t know if I’ll ever find a man like Norman again.” Despite his sadness, the 47-year-old remains open to finding love again, saying, “I hope to meet someone I can connect with on an equal footing. I’m open to that. But I’m also okay with being single for now.”

During the separation, Schropp took time away in his second home of Cape Town, South Africa. He initially enjoyed his time as a single man, but later became “emotionally involved” with someone new. He described the situation as “not nice,” explaining that he fully commits when he falls in love. Despite this, Schropp maintains his belief in love, even though his relationship with his ex-husband couldn’t be saved.

Schropp and Norman began dating in 2018. The couple officially married in a civil ceremony in Berlin in March 2022, followed by a celebration in South Africa in April.
