Klaebo Makes Winter Olympics History with Tenth Gold Medal
Norwegian cross-country skier Johannes Høsflot Klaebo has cemented his place in Winter Olympics history, securing his tenth gold medal on Sunday, February 15, 2026. This achievement makes him the most decorated Winter Olympian of all time. The victory came in the men’s 4×7.5km cross-country relay at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, adding to an already impressive career.
Klaebo’s tenth gold medal came as no surprise, given his dominant performance throughout the Games. He has won gold in every event he’s entered so far in Milan-Cortina. His teammates, Emil Iversen, Martin Loewstroem Nyenget, and Einar Hedegart, contributed to the Norwegian team’s success in the relay. This win marks his fourth gold medal at the current Games.
The 29-year-old Norwegian previously achieved success at the Winter Games in Pyeongchang (2018, three gold medals) and Beijing (2022, two gold medals). He also made history last year by becoming the first cross-country skier to win six gold medals at the World Championships.
With nine gold medals and eleven Olympic medals Klaebo is now widely regarded as the greatest Winter Olympian in history. He still has opportunities to add to his medal count, with the teamsprint and the 50 kilometer mass start remaining on his schedule.
France took silver in the relay, while Italy surprised many by securing the bronze medal after a close battle with Finland.
Ireen Wüst is seventh on the all-time list of Winter Olympians with six gold, five silver, and two bronze medals.
Klaebo previously equaled the records of Marit Bjørgen, Bjørn Daehlie (both cross-country skiing), and Ole Einar Bjørndalen (biathlon), who all held eight Olympic titles. While those athletes have more total Olympic medals, the number of gold medals is the deciding factor in the official medal count.
