Madrid – A burgeoning public dispute between prominent Spanish television hosts Jordi Évole and Juan del Val is drawing attention to the frequently enough-complex relationships within the country’s entertainment industry. the conflict began after Évole questioned his recent infrequent appearances on del Val’s show, “La Roca,” and has as escalated with pointed remarks exchanged on air and via social media. At the center of the disagreement is a commentary made by del Val following his win of the prestigious Premio Planeta literary prize last year.

A potential feud between Spanish television personalities Jordi Évole and Juan del Val is making headlines after Évole hinted that a disagreement with del Val may be the reason he won’t be appearing on del Val’s show, “La Roca,” to promote his own program. The entertainment industry often sees these kinds of behind-the-scenes dynamics play out publicly.

Évole first brought up the possibility of a rift during a January 20 appearance on Onda Cero’s “Julia en la Onda.” “I’ve always gone both on premiere day and almost every Sunday,” he said, referring to his usual appearances on “La Roca.” “It’s struck me as odd, because I’m sure Nuria runs the show very well, but I wonder to what extent Juan del Val’s annoyance with me is influencing whether or not I’ll be on ‘La Roca.’”

The situation escalated when Évole addressed a previous comment made by del Val while appearing on the game show “Pasapalabra.” Del Val had written, after winning the Premio Planeta literary award for ‘Vera, una historia de amor,’ “Guys and girls with an IG profile talking about books they haven’t read or presenters with a fake tracksuit who brag about ‘being from the neighborhood’ but are just opportunists looking for easy applause.”

Jordi Évole Responds on ‘Pasapalabra’

On “Pasapalabra,” Évole responded directly, saying, “A colleague from this house, from Atresmedia, who collaborates on several programs and commented that there were colleagues with a fake tracksuit. I loved the metaphor, and he’s also a Planeta award-winning writer. Whenever I say Planeta, I kiss the crest. That’s for you, Juan.”

Évole didn’t stop there, taking to Twitter to comment on the media coverage of the developing story. “For the clickbait creators and generators, here’s some good stuff… Come on! The topic was dying down. The most sensational headline wins!” he wrote on January 20.
