José Jerí: Trump lo invita a cumbre en Miami en medio de crisis política

Peruvian President José Jerí has been invited by U.S. President Donald Trump to a high-level summit of leaders from across Latin America and the Caribbean. The meeting is scheduled for March 7 in Miami, Florida.

“This meeting is shaping up to be the first regional forum of leaders from the Western Hemisphere under the current U.S. Administration,” the Ministry of Foreign Relations stated. According to the ministry, attendees are expected to include the heads of state of Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Honduras, among other regional leaders.

The forum aims to strengthen strategic cooperation in security, promote shared development goals, and consolidate democratic stability.

The meeting, to be held at the Trump National Doral Miami, marks the first regional forum convened by Trump since his return to office. Leaders expected to attend include Javier Milei of Argentina, Santiago Peña of Paraguay, Rodrigo Paz of Bolivia, Nayib Bukele of El Salvador, Daniel Noboa of Ecuador, and Nasry Asfura of Honduras.

The Ministry of Foreign Relations added that the invitation to Peru comes as both nations commemorate the bicentennial of diplomatic relations, reflecting a history of friendship based on shared values and mutual benefit.

However, the summit is scheduled to take place weeks after Peru’s Congress meets on February 17 for an extraordinary session to discuss a motion of censure against Jerí, leaving his future as president uncertain amid investigations into alleged ties with Chinese businessmen. The development underscores the political challenges facing the Peruvian leader as he prepares to engage in regional diplomacy.
