Colombian forward Luis Fernando Muriel is the focus of intense transfer negotiations between Major League Soccer’s Orlando City and Barranquilla-based club Junior F.C. Don’t celebrate just yet. A deal isn’t finalized. While it’s true that Junior is actively pursuing the signing of Luis Fernando Muriel, and negotiations are well advanced, Orlando City still holds the final say. The Colombian striker remains under contract with the MLS club through December of this year.

Fuad Char Abdala, a shareholder in the Junior club, spoke with EL HERALDO on Wednesday afternoon and confirmed that an agreement has been reached with the player regarding his salary. However, he clarified that the response from the MLS team to the offer sent by the ‘Tiburones’ (Sharks) is still pending.

“We have already reached an agreement with the player. We are waiting for the team (Orlando City) to approve our proposal,” Char Abdala told EL HERALDO.

A resolution regarding Muriel’s potential move to Junior is expected within the next few hours, or by Thursday morning. The forward is eagerly anticipating the possibility of wearing the jersey of his boyhood club. This potential signing would be a major boost for Junior as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Muriel previously came up through Junior’s youth system, but later moved to Deportivo Cali with the guidance of talent scout Agustín Garizábalo.

He quickly transitioned to European football, where he spent the majority of his career. In the last two years, he has played for Orlando City.
