Kyoto’s historic Minamiza Theater is adjusting its upcoming “Yoshiki Kaomise Kikou” performance following the death of veteran actor Kamezo Katooka, a mainstay of the Kabuki stage. The Minamiza Theatre has announced adjustments to the cast of its upcoming “Yoshiki Kaomise Kikou” performance following the recent passing of Kamezo Katooka.
According to a statement released by Shochiku Co., Ltd., the afternoon performance of Heike Monogatari: Hojima will now feature Seto Taro Kanyasu, with Sakato Kichisaburo in a supporting role. The evening performance of Benten Kozo: Otoko Meido will star Onoue Kikujiro, alongside Okami no Yakujiro.
Kabuki, a classical Japanese dance-drama, is known for its elaborate costumes and stylized performances, and continues to be a significant part of Japanese cultural heritage. The Minamiza Theatre’s production will continue as scheduled with these casting changes.
