Seoul police are investigating allegations of illicit campaign funding surrounding independent lawmaker Kang Seon-woo, with key figures facing repeated questioning this week.
Nam, a former aide and office manager for Kang, arrived at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Public Crime Investigation Unit on Friday evening for a third round of questioning, according to authorities. The investigation centers on claims that Kang received 100 million won in illegal contributions in exchange for a promise of a favorable position on the ballot.
Nam, who is being questioned as a suspect, declined to answer questions from reporters upon arrival, including whether he initially proposed the alleged contribution to Kim Gyeong, a Seoul city council member. He also did not respond to inquiries about whether he was present when the money allegedly changed hands.

The overlapping investigations have led to speculation that police may attempt to bring the two men together for a confrontational interview, though authorities say that will depend on whether either suspect waives their right to remain silent.
According to previous statements, Kim has alleged that Nam first suggested the contribution to Kang, even specifying an amount referred to as “one slot.” She claims this occurred while she was considering a run for office in the 2022 local elections.
Nam, however, has reportedly denied any knowledge of the alleged contribution. He has stated that he met with Kim and Kang but left the room briefly and was unaware of any money exchange. He claims he later moved an unidentified package in Kang’s car at the lawmaker’s direction.

Kang has maintained his innocence, claiming that any financial transaction occurred solely between Kim and Nam, and that he was only informed afterward and immediately instructed the money be returned.
Kim arrived at the police station earlier Friday and told reporters, “There’s been too much unsubstantiated testimony and speculative reporting. I find it regrettable.” She added, “I am cooperating fully with the investigation and taking a responsible approach. I ask that you wait to see the results. I apologize.” She declined to specify which reports she considered speculative.
The investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected as police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
