Jefferson City Woman, Dedicated Nurse and Craft Enthusiast, Remembered After Passing

Karen Ann Scott, 61, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of compassionate care and creative spirit.

Born in Hannibal, Missouri, to Thomas and Cecilia (Campbell) Whalen, Scott dedicated her career to nursing, working in hospitals across Missouri and at the Dialysis Clinic. She earned an associate’s degree from Lincoln University and was known for her gentle demeanor and dedication to her patients. The loss highlights the ongoing challenges faced by healthcare professionals and the impact they have on their communities.

Outside of her professional life, Scott was a passionate musician, enjoying classic rock from the seventies and eighties, and a prolific crafter, earning the affectionate nickname “overly crafty” from loved ones. She is survived by her parents, five sons and daughters – Chris Coker, Josh Scott, Trisha Winterstein, Kristi Shackleford, and Holly Scott – eight siblings, and a large extended family including numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Scott, and daughters Samantha and Danielle Scott.

A visitation will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Proto-Cathedral of St. Peter Catholic Church, followed by a Memorial Mass. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Brazito-Honey Creek Lions Club. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Covenant House. Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.
