Seven years after a scandal derailed his Hollywood career, Kevin Spacey says he’s living a nomadic existence. The 66-year-old actor describes a life of constant travel, short stays, and a lack of a permanent home, telling the British newspaper Telegraph that he “literally doesn’t have a house.” He divides his time “between hotels, Airbnb,” following wherever work takes him.

The two-time Oscar winner and former star of “House of Cards” has been reflecting on the impact of the sexual assault allegations that surfaced in 2017. Despite being acquitted in both the United States and the United Kingdom in 2023, he maintains that life is far from normal. “The costs over the last seven years have been astronomical. I’ve had very little income and everything has gone out,” he emphasized.

At the time the allegations came to light, Spacey owned a home in Baltimore, Maryland, which he sold to cover millions in legal fees and navigate a series of lawsuits. In a previous emotional interview with Piers Morgan, he admitted, “I don’t know where I’m going to live anymore.”

Acquittals Haven’t Restored Industry Standing

Even after his legal victories, Kevin Spacey faced renewed scrutiny. The 2024 premiere of the documentary “Kevin Spacey: The Untold Story” featured ten men recounting allegations of abuse. The actor immediately responded on X, stating he would not “stand by” and allow a “one-sided documentary,” produced by a “dying channel in a desperate attempt to get eyeballs,” to re-attack him.

Later, during an appearance on Lex Fridman’s podcast, Spacey acknowledged having engaged in behavior that was “promiscuous, flirtatious, and sometimes uncomfortable” in the past. However, he refuted several accusations he considers false and insisted he never promised career advancement in exchange for sexual favors. He did express regret for behaviors he says he shouldn’t have engaged in.

Spacey hasn’t worked in the American entertainment industry since 2017. He says a climate of fear continues to prevent any potential comeback. “If you’re in the entertainment business, you’re not offered forgiveness. People are very afraid. They’re literally afraid of being canceled if they defend someone who’s been canceled,” he stated. The situation underscores the lasting impact of the #MeToo movement and the challenges facing figures accused of misconduct.

Despite the obstacles, the actor believes he may eventually find stability. For now, he continues to live out of a suitcase, relying on temporary accommodations and sporadic work. It’s a nomadic life Spacey describes as unavoidable as he attempts to rebuild his future.
