South Korean television personality Kim Won-hee recently opened up about her and her husband’s decision, made over two decades ago, to pursue adoption rather than having biological children. The revelation came during a segment on the MBN program “Puzzle Trip,” where a story about international adoption prompted a deeply personal reflection. Kim won-hee’s long-held desire to support children extends beyond adoption, as she’s also actively working towards establishing a childcare facility alongside her sisters, all of whom are pursuing qualifications in related fields.
South Korean television personality Kim Won-hee recently revealed the reason behind her 21-year decision to remain childfree in a candid conversation on MBN’s “Puzzle Trip.”
The discussion began after Kim Won-hee watched a segment on the show featuring a woman searching for her family after being adopted in the United States. Reflecting on the emotional moment, she shared, “I have a large family myself – four sisters and a younger brother. Knowing how strong those family bonds are, I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like for the sister searching for her sibling. I imagine she misses her parents, but also her sister.”

Kim Won-hee then disclosed a long-held dream, sparked 15 years ago, to operate a childcare facility. She became visibly moved while viewing the adoption consent papers signed by the adoptee’s mother. “I’ve always been very interested in this topic. It’s something I’ve dreamed about,” she explained. “My husband and I discussed it before we got married in our twenties. We decided to adopt instead of having a biological child, and he readily agreed.”
“After we got married, I even worked taking care of children. Through that experience, I realized that while adoption is wonderful, I wanted to create a facility where I could care for many children,” she continued. “All four of my sisters have obtained qualifications related to childcare. I have my childcare provider certification, and my younger sisters are preparing for social worker certifications. It’s something that’s always on my mind. That’s why I immediately said yes when I was asked to participate in this program.”
Kim Won-hee married photographer Son Hyeok-chan in 2005. Last year, during an appearance on tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block,” she revealed that her younger brother has been battling brain seizures for over 30 years, which ultimately inspired her to pursue a social work certification. This revelation adds another layer to her commitment to supporting vulnerable children and families.
