Klarna Simplifies Payments

Klarna has launched a new feature enabling in-store payments via mobile using the Klarna app as a contactless wallet.

Klarna is expanding its payment options with the rollout of Tap to Pay, now available in 14 European markets. The new functionality transforms the Klarna app into a contactless payment method for brick-and-mortar stores, offering a seamless checkout experience.

Leveraging Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, Tap to Pay allows customers to access their Klarna card within the app, select the Tap to Pay option, and complete purchases by holding their phone near a payment terminal. Users can utilize the card in debit mode by default, or link the transaction to a Klarna flexible payment plan chosen after the purchase.

Currently, Tap to Pay is live in Germany, Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Austria, Ireland, Portugal, Norway, Poland, Denmark, and Sweden, and is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.

According to Klarna, the goal of Tap to Pay is to bring the convenience of online shopping to physical retail environments, where a significant portion of consumer spending still occurs. The company positions the feature as a way to consolidate payments and flexible financing options within a single app, eliminating the need for customers to switch between multiple cards and digital wallets at the point of sale.
