The incident, which occurred in the Holosiiv district, is prompting questions about safety protocols and infrastructure maintenance in the city.

According to Kyiv Police: “The fall of a minor girl into a pit of boiling water, formed as a result of a heating network rupture in the Holosiiv district – investigators have detained an official from Kyivteploenergo.”

The detained individual is the head of a section within the municipal enterprise. He is facing charges related to violating safety regulations during high-risk work, resulting in severe consequences, under Part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Details: Authorities have also prepared a motion to the court requesting pre-trial detention for the suspect. Investigative measures are ongoing.

The Holosiiv District Prosecutor’s Office is overseeing the legal proceedings.

The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office clarified that the detained individual is the head of the Pechersk District Heating Network Management of the Kyiv Thermal Networks branch of Kyivteploenergo.

Background: On January 3, a 16-year-old girl fell into a pit of scalding water on Lobanovskyi Avenue after a pipe burst and the area was left unguarded. The girl suffered burns covering 73% of her body and is currently in critical condition. A 53-year-old woman also sustained leg burns after stepping into the hot water that had spilled onto the sidewalk.

Law enforcement officials have opened a criminal investigation into negligence and violations of safety regulations during high-risk work (under Parts 2 of Articles 367 and 272 of the Criminal Code).
