Recently celebrating a milestone birthday, Laďka Něrgešová was initially given a grim prognosis by doctors. However, the outlook remains challenging.
A 50th Birthday Not Expected by Doctors
“Not only am I not ashamed of my age, but in May I was told that I might not even live to observe my 50th birthday,” popular presenter Laďka Něrgešová commented during her show, Showtime, regarding the moment last May when she underwent brain tumor surgery and doctors indicated she might not reach the milestone. A beloved actor recently passed away at a similar age, prompting mourning from his wife and close friends.
The well-known Czech presenter has captured the attention of the nation with her optimistic approach, honesty, and unwavering spirit, gaining a growing fanbase who strongly support her.

Laďka Něrgešová, a mother of two, has been a familiar face to audiences for years as a presenter on the popular celebrity show Showtime on Prima television, where she is highly valued. Her sudden disappearance from the screen last year prompted speculation, which was later explained by a diagnosis of glioblastoma, a rare but very aggressive form of brain cancer.
Glioblastoma is characterized by its rapid growth and tendency to infiltrate surrounding brain tissue, making treatment particularly challenging. According to medical data, the average survival time with comprehensive treatment is 12-18 months, with a 90% recurrence rate after surgery.
Despite the prognosis, Něrgešová celebrated her 50th birthday, exceeding expectations. “I’m 50! After the brain surgery in May – it’s actually unbelievable! I am grateful for every day. For all the doctors, nurses, and oncologists. Friends, family, and good souls,” she stated on social media, as reported by Zena.aktualne.cz.
Doctors Estimate She Has Six Months to Live
Given the prognosis, Něrgešová is undergoing treatment she hopes will extend her life. She is receiving TTF, or TTFields, a relatively new, non-invasive technique for treating glioblastoma using the Optune device. During a recent talk show appearance, the presenter demonstrated the device, removing her wig to show it to the audience, as reported by Instagram.
“I’m happy to grab off my hair. So you can see what’s attached here…” she said, receiving applause. “I suppose this hasn’t changed my whole life. How I look and how I behave. I’m completely at peace with that.”
She showed the electrodes placed on her scalp – which is why she regularly shaves her head – which deliver low-intensity alternating electrical fields into the scalp. Here’s intended to prevent the division and growth of tumor cells. According to The Brain Tumor Charity, the device should be worn for at least 18 hours a day, preferably continuously, to achieve the best effect and response to treatment. The length of treatment is determined by a doctor. Side effects can include headaches.
“I really wish I could be here for a few more months… years? I know it’s very hard, and that the probability is small, but I really wish it… I’m not going to die. Definitely not now, in half a year, as the percentages suggest,” she revealed, indicating the timeframe doctors have estimated.
She expressed the same wish on her birthday, prompting admiration and support from her followers:
“So yes! I’m fifty! On Candlemas… candles against illness! 50th BIRTHDAY! February 2, 1976 Prague…. After the brain surgery in May – it’s actually unbelievable! I am grateful for every day. For all the doctors, nurses, and oncologists. Friends, family, and good souls. And I really wish I could BE here for a few more months… years? For MY CHILDREN! Two tumors. One big request. Let a MIRACLE happen, and I’ll stay here for a few more years. THANK YOU!”
