Police in Gothenburg, Sweden, are investigating an assault involving a laser pointer that left a man injured Thursday evening. The incident, reported just before 8 p.m. local time, is one of several recent attacks involving lasers targeting transportation and personnel in the region.
According to police, the man fell and struck his head after a laser was directed at him. He briefly lost consciousness but regained it shortly after. His current condition remains unknown.
“At present, we have no suspects other than reports of 3–4 young people being involved,” said police spokesperson Jennifer Last.
Authorities have opened an investigation into aggravated assault and violations of radiation safety laws. The case highlights the potential for serious harm from seemingly minor acts of vandalism.
Previous Laser Attacks Reported
Similar incidents involving green laser pointers were reported in Gothenburg in November. On November 8, trams were targeted, and on November 20, personnel on a ferry and a bus driver were reportedly illuminated with lasers. All of these events have been officially reported to police.
“Police are taking these incidents seriously as they pose a risk of traffic accidents and serious personal injury,” Last stated. The move underscores the growing concern over the misuse of laser pointers and the dangers they present.
