Latvia’s national team dominated Estonia with a resounding 89-47 victory in Group B action.
“We continued to build our team identity and stick to a style of play that can deliver wins. We tried to operate quickly and with energy in every situation,” the coach emphasized.
“There were moments where things didn’t quite click, and we missed quite a few open shots, but all the players competed with maximum effort, regardless of the score,” said Rožlapa. “That pleased me even more than the large point difference.”
He explained that, following the experience of the first match against Slovenia, playing time was divided into shorter segments for each player to conserve energy and avoid seeking easier, rather than correct, solutions when fatigued.
The coach noted that the preparation work done over the summer was useful, but acknowledged that several players were unable to participate in it.
“The biggest difficulties in this training camp weren’t the tactical nuances, which the girls picked up very quickly, but the distribution of roles and readjusting from their clubs, where there are different tactical setups and assignments,” Rožlapa stressed.
He pointed out that this was particularly evident in the first game in Slovenia, but after that, the players were able to recover quickly and secure important victories.
