Changes to train schedules on the Sigulda line are set to accept effect on February 17, 2026, due to ongoing construction work at the Zemitani station, according to reports. The alterations are a result of extended building projects being undertaken by AS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” (Latvian Railways).

Initially slated for completion by February 12, 2026, the construction at Zemitani station experienced delays attributed to unfavorable weather conditions, specifically severe frost. As a consequence, a revised train schedule will be implemented starting February 17th. This disruption highlights the challenges infrastructure projects can face due to climate-related factors.

Currently, until February 16, 2026, the previously implemented schedule – introduced on January 6th – remains in effect. During this period, trains traveling towards Sigulda are operating under a special arrangement designed to accommodate the construction. All trains on the Riga–Valga–Riga route are currently running on a modified timetable.

Many trains between Riga Central Station and Zemitani Station are experiencing longer travel times than usual. In some instances, trains are utilizing alternative routes, and those traveling to or from Riga are experiencing changes in direction at the Jāņavārtu station. Travel time between Riga Central Station and Zemitani Station can now take approximately 30 minutes.

Passengers on two specific routes will necessitate to transfer at Zemitani Station. The first involves train number 6110 (departing Riga at 7:56 AM, arriving in Skulte at 9:05 AM), requiring a connection to train number 830 (departing Zemitani at 8:16 AM, arriving in Sigulda at 9:16 AM). The second affected route is train number 865 (departing Valmiera at 4:56 AM, arriving in Zemitani at 7:00 AM), which requires a transfer to train number 6105 (departing Skulte at 6:05 AM, arriving in Riga at 7:15 AM). Transfers are scheduled with a six-minute window, and a single ticket covers the entire journey.

The updated schedule reflects the need to balance continued rail service with essential infrastructure upgrades. Passengers are advised to check the latest timetable information before traveling.
