Riga, Latvia – The Latvian Olympic Unit (LOV) today announced a 110-member squad representing 20 sports, receiving vital funding and medical support in preparation for the 2026 competitive season. The selections, made by a joint committee from the Ministry of Education and Science, the Latvian Olympic Committee, and Riga Stradins university, reflect a tiered approach to athlete development and support. This investment underscores Latvia’s commitment to fostering Olympic and international athletic achievement, as the nation looks ahead to upcoming qualifying events and championships.
Latvia Announces 110-Athlete Squad for 2026 Season
Latvia’s Olympic Unit (LOV) has named a 110-athlete roster across 20 different sports, providing crucial medical and financial support as they prepare for the 2026 season. The announcement signals a significant investment in Latvian athletes as they gear up for potential competition on the world stage.
The team selections were made according to a tiered system – Gold, Silver, and Bronze squads – with additional athletes included based on recommendations from their respective sports federations. This allows for continued support of athletes whose 2025 performances may not have been optimal due to various circumstances.
A total of 16 athletes have been designated to the Gold squad, 19 to the Silver squad, and 48 to the Bronze squad. An additional 27 athletes have been added to the LOV roster through individual decisions, with some receiving conditional support based on achieving specific results within a defined timeframe. This flexible approach aims to maximize Latvia’s competitive potential.
The LOV roster decisions were made by a committee comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science, the Latvian Olympic Committee, and Riga Stradins University.
Nine athletes from Ventspils have earned a place on the Latvian Olympic Unit’s 2026 roster.

• Weightlifting – Armands Mežinskis;
• Weightlifting – Ritvars Suharevs;
Bronze Squad Selections
• Track and Field – Brenda Džiliana Apsīte;
Athletes Added by Individual Decision:
• Track and Field athlete Rūta Kate Lasmane;
• BMX Freestyle Rider Ernests Zēbolds;
• Beach Volleyball players Ralfs Andrejevs and Eduards Dūdens.
