Latvian Skeleton Racer Andžāne Competes in Olympic Debut
Latvia’s Marta Andžāne made her Olympic debut in women’s skeleton on Friday, February 13, 2026, finishing 18th after the first heat at the Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Games. The performance marks a strong start for the Latvian athlete in her first appearance on the Olympic stage.
Andžāne completed the course with a time of 1:15 behind the leader, according to LSM. Austria’s Janīna Floka currently leads the competition with a time of 57.22 seconds, followed closely by Germany’s Suzanne Kreher and Great Britain’s Tabita Stēkere.
Also competing for Latvia is Dārta Zunte, who represents Estonia and currently sits in 22nd place after the first run, trailing the leader by 1.66 seconds, Jauns.lv reports. Zunte previously competed for Latvia before choosing to represent Estonia.
The women’s skeleton competition consists of two heats, with the second run scheduled for later on Friday. The medalists will be determined on Saturday. All heats are being broadcast live on LTV7, LSM.lv, and replay.lv.
In the men’s competition, Latvia’s Emīls Indriksons is currently in 17th place after the first day of competition, LSM reports. The men will compete in their final two runs on Friday evening, starting at 8:30 PM.
Prior to the Games, Andžāne had shown promising form in training runs, achieving top-20 finishes on several occasions, including a 16th-place result in the third heat and 17th and 18th place finishes in earlier runs, as detailed by Sportacentrs.com. Her best result in the training runs was a 16th-place finish in the third heat.
