A workshop series in Monflanquin, France, aims to harness the power of laughter for improved health and well-being. The practice, known as Yoga of Laughter, focuses on cultivating a positive mindset and releasing tension through breathing exercises and intentional laughter.
The Yoga of Laughter concept originated with Dr. Madan Kataria, an Indian physician who launched the first laughter club in Mumbai in 1995. Since then, the practice has expanded globally, with thousands of clubs now operating in over one hundred countries. The approach combines laughter exercises with deep breathing techniques, culminating in a relaxation-focused “laughter meditation.”
Unlike traditional yoga, Yoga of Laughter does not involve physical postures or challenging movements. Instead, it centers on the idea that the body responds similarly to both spontaneous and simulated laughter, triggering the release of endorphins and other beneficial chemicals. According to proponents, this can lead to stress reduction, lower blood pressure, increased self-confidence, a strengthened immune system, improved digestion, increased energy levels, and better sleep.
The workshop, which will run from Wednesday, April 22nd to Wednesday, June 10th, from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM, will be held at the Salle des fêtes Daniel-Soulage in Monflanquin. Organizers encourage early registration due to high demand. Those interested can contact ASEPT Périgord-Agenais at 05 53 02 68 76 or visit www.asept-perigord-agenais.fr.
The benefits of laughter extend beyond individual well-being; a smiling person is often perceived more favorably in social settings, and laughter itself is contagious. This workshop offers a structured approach to incorporating more of this natural mood booster into daily life.
