LEGO Batman: RAM Requirements Cut by 50% After Backlash

Concerns about increasingly demanding technical specifications and a wave of poorly optimized games have been amplified by a global surge in RAM prices, driven by heavy demand from artificial intelligence companies. In response, TT Games has optimized LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, reducing its RAM requirements by 50 percent.

Initial system requirements released in January surprised many players, listing an RTX 2070 as the minimum graphics card and 32 GB of RAM as needed for optimal performance. Even the minimum recommended specifications called for 16 GB of RAM, a figure that drew criticism from the gaming community.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Will Now Require 16 GB of RAM

Following weeks of technical testing, the British studio, a subsidiary of Warner Bros., announced via a Steam post that it has implemented changes to address these concerns. Both the minimum and recommended specifications for the game will now require 16 GB of RAM. This adjustment brings the game’s requirements more in line with other recent titles, such as LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which required 8 GB of RAM three years ago.

The studio noted that these specifications are not yet final. While the game has not yet reached its “gold” status – signifying the completion of development – the months leading up to its May release will be critical for further optimizing the open world, and requirements may be adjusted accordingly. This iterative approach to system requirements reflects a growing trend among developers to refine performance as they near launch.

While the RAM crisis and inflated prices aren’t yet driving widespread PC over-optimization, the LEGO Batman case suggests a potential shift in developer priorities. Some players criticized the game’s leverage of Unreal Engine 5 instead of Traveller’s Tales’ proprietary NTT engine, suggesting this choice may have contributed to the initially high system requirements.
