Emergency services responded to reports of smoke coming from an industrial building in Mjåneset, Leknes, around 6:00 a.m. Local time on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The incident prompted a safety perimeter and evacuation recommendations for the area.

According to initial reports, the building contains welding gas, and a 300-meter safety zone has been established. Authorities are asking commuters to delay travel to the area and those nearby to evacuate.

As of now, there is no immediate danger of the fire spreading to other structures, and no injuries have been reported.

At 6:14 a.m., police stated that efforts were underway to pinpoint the location of the gas cylinders within the building.

By 6:22 a.m., authorities confirmed that firefighters had entered the building and begun extinguishing the blaze.

Reports indicate a vehicle is burning inside the structure.

The fire is located in a workshop belonging to Norsk Scania.

“There is heavy smoke and flames inside the building,” said a journalist from Lofotposten at the scene, Kai Nikolaisen. “Firefighters have sent in a team with breathing apparatus. Given the proximity to residential areas, people should stay home or abandon the area.”

Hele området blir avsperret

Police provided an update at 6:43 a.m.

“The white smoke is a positive sign, suggesting that the most dangerous substances are not burning,” said Johansen.

At 7:05 a.m., the Lofotposten journalist reported a decrease in smoke visibility.

“They have now opened a gate and begun spraying water. There are two vehicles inside the building, which they are attempting to remove,” Nikolaisen stated.

At 7:14 a.m., the Lofotposten journalist reported that the entire area was being cordoned off.

“The entire area is now blocked off. Those in nearby commercial buildings have been instructed to remain indoors. Customers at the REMA 1000 supermarket were allowed to leave, but the area surrounding the fire is now completely sealed off. The smoke has subsided,” Nikolaisen said.

Saken oppdateres.
