Following a meeting on April 24, the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) Disciplinary Committee issued a range of penalties stemming from on-ice incidents that occurred during games held April 21. The rulings, which include suspensions and fines totaling over €1,100, affect multiple teams within the Latvian Hockey League. The committee reviewed 24 cases during the session, highlighting increased scrutiny of player conduct as the league enters its playoff push.

Disciplinary Decisions from Latvian Hockey Federation Meeting

The Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) Disciplinary Committee concluded its 24th session on April 24, 2024, issuing a series of rulings regarding player conduct and on-ice incidents. These decisions impact several teams currently competing in the Latvian Hockey League.

Forward Mārtiņš Gipters, playing for HK Liepāja, received a two-game suspension following an infraction during a match on April 21, 2024. The committee determined Gipters committed a checking to the head penalty.

Defenceman Jānis Jēkabsons of Prizma Riga was handed a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct stemming from an incident on April 21, 2024.

HK Mogo also faced disciplinary action. Forward Bruno Brants received a one-game suspension for a high-sticking penalty committed on April 21, 2024. Additionally, HK Mogo was fined €500 for accumulating too many team penalties.

Several other players received lesser penalties. Forward Roberts Jākobs of Dinamo Rīga was fined €200 for unsportsmanlike conduct on April 21, 2024. Meanwhile, defenseman Emīls Ezers of HS Rīga received a €100 fine for the same offense, also on April 21, 2024.

The LHF Disciplinary Committee also reviewed incidents involving players from Jelgava and Ozoli/Zemgali. Jelgava’s Māris Krauze was fined €100 for unsportsmanlike conduct on April 21, 2024, and Ozoli/Zemgali’s Rihards Balcers received the same penalty and fine for an incident on the same date.

These rulings come as the Latvian Hockey League heads into the playoff stretch, with teams vying for championship contention. The suspensions and fines will undoubtedly impact team lineups and strategies in the coming weeks.
