Fans of the narrative adventure series Life is Strange have a new chapter to anticipate with the upcoming release of Life is Strange: Reunion on March 26th. The game, launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, marks a significant return for Chloe Price, a central character from the critically acclaimed first installment.

The original Life is Strange, released 11 years ago, captivated players with its unique premise: protagonist Max Caulfield discovers the ability to rewind time, impacting the lives of her friends and the fate of Arcadia Bay. While sequels have followed, many fans consider the first game a classic, leading to a remastered version and now, a direct continuation with Double Exposure. The enduring popularity of the series speaks to the growing demand for emotionally resonant, choice-driven gaming experiences.

Reunion picks up Max’s story, building on the narrative threads introduced in 2024’s Double Exposure, where Max gained the ability to travel between parallel realities. Notably absent from Double Exposure, Chloe’s return is a direct response to player demand, allowing Deck Nine Games to finally conclude their intertwined story. The game will account for both endings of the original Life is Strange, as Chloe’s reappearance is a consequence of Max’s manipulation of the multiverse.

Developers are shifting focus back to time manipulation as a core mechanic, reinstating the rewind ability after players navigated alternate timelines in Double Exposure. With the merging of timelines, Max loses the power to travel between parallel realities. The primary setting will once again be Caledon University in Vermont, featured in Double Exposure, but this time, Chloe’s decisions will directly influence the university’s fate, offering players the chance to control both protagonists and experience the story from multiple perspectives.

Max will utilize her time manipulation skills to unravel the mystery surrounding a fire at Caledon University. The rewind mechanic has been refined since the original game, allowing players to revisit moments in time triggered by finding photographs – effectively creating a “butterfly effect” scenario, similar to the concept explored in the film The Butterfly Effect. This emphasizes the importance of photographic evidence in Max’s investigation.

Chloe, meanwhile, will be a more grounded character with gameplay rooted in classic adventure game mechanics. She’s currently managing the punk band Drugstore Makeup, relying on her charisma and quick wit. The “Backtalk” ability, previously seen in Before the Storm, returns, allowing her to talk her way out of difficult situations. Unlike Max, Chloe isn’t a student and has access to areas of the university that are off-limits to her counterpart, justifying the dual-protagonist approach.

The developers emphasize that player choices will significantly shape the relationship between Max and Chloe, influencing their shared history and even the decision made at the end of the first Life is Strange game. Further details about the characters and gameplay will be revealed leading up to the March 26th launch.
