Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy – Olympic skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has been discharged from the hospital after suffering a broken leg in a crash during the 2026 Winter Olympics, multiple news outlets reported. The 41-year-traditional athlete underwent three surgeries at Ca’ Foncello Hospital in Treviso, Italy, with a third procedure deemed “successful” on Wednesday, February 11.

Vonn sustained a complex tibial fracture in her left leg during a downhill run on Sunday, February 6. Following the injury, she was airlifted to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Despite the severity of the injury, Vonn has maintained a positive outlook, sharing updates and expressing gratitude for the support she’s received.

“I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful,” Vonn wrote in an Instagram post. “Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago. I’m making progress and while This proves slow, I know I’ll be ok.”

Photos shared by Vonn show her in good spirits, giving a thumbs-up from her hospital bed and interacting with her medical team. One image reveals her injured leg stabilized by a device, while another displays an abundance of flowers sent by well-wishers.

Vonn also took the time to acknowledge her fellow athletes, congratulating Jackie Wiles and Paula Moltzan on their bronze medal in the team combined event. The veteran skier expressed her appreciation for the outpouring of support from around the world and thanked the medical staff, friends, and family who have been by her side.

According to a recent update on February 13, Vonn will require two additional surgeries. Despite this, she remains optimistic about her recovery and has vowed to ski again, telling reporters she doesn’t want anyone to feel sorry for her.

Before leaving the hospital, Vonn also left a heartwarming gift for the children’s ward, demonstrating her generosity and spirit even while recovering from a serious injury. Nieuwsblad reports that she gifted a special present to the young patients.

The crash brought a temporary halt to the big air competition, which was delayed for over two hours due to a snowstorm, De Standaard reported. However, the focus remains on Vonn’s recovery and her inspiring resilience in the face of adversity.
