Lisbon police seized firearms and ammunition Wednesday morning during a criminal prevention operation targeting the Olivais and Marvila neighborhoods. The operation underscores ongoing efforts to curb illegal weapons activity in the Portuguese capital.

Authorities conducted searches at 12 homes, resulting in the confiscation of four shotguns, a 6.35mm pistol, 37 12-gauge cartridges, and 22 rounds of 6.35mm ammunition, according to police commissioner Carina Alves.

“The operation is taking place in the Olivais and Marvila parishes, with searches of homes in 12 locations,” Alves said. “The objective of this operation is the seizure of prohibited weapons under the terms of Law No. 5/2006 of February 23.”

Police stated that the individuals targeted in the operation were already under investigation for allegedly using firearms in connection with various criminal offenses. The case highlights the authorities’ focus on disrupting illegal firearm networks and addressing related criminal activity.
