A Lithuanian business couple has found a slice of sunshine and a potential hedge against global uncertainty in southern Spain. Juozas and Elvyra Liaudanskas, entrepreneurs from Kupiskis, Lithuania, purchased a vacation home in the Torevjechos region of Spain four years ago, a decision they say was both a long-held dream and a response to the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
The couple, featured in a recent segment of the “Orijaus kelionės. Atostogų namai” show on Delfi TV, described the purchase as fulfilling a long-term goal of owning a second home in a warmer climate. “We wanted it to be warm and comfortable,” Juozas Liaudanskas said. “Spain was one of the best options – the distances are reasonable. Three hours by plane – it’s almost the same as from Kupiskis to Palanga.”

The couple settled on a property within the Las Ramblas complex in the southern Spanish region of Torevjechos. The area is known for its golf courses and a largely British and Irish expat community. Similar apartments in the area are now selling for around €160,000 to €170,000 or more.
What made the purchase particularly remarkable was its speed. The Liaudanskas’s reportedly found their vacation home on the first day of a four-day trip. “We chose it in one day… As soon as we arrived at Las Ramblas, it was clear,” Juozas said. “Palm trees trimmed, tidy surroundings, golf courses all around. We went inside – it’s a six-apartment building, with marble, radiators, gas heating, double-glazed windows, parking below. 75 square meters of living space and a 45 square meter terrace. Something like that!”

They didn’t even bother looking at other properties. The next day, they signed a contract, opened a bank account with the help of a real estate agent, and completed the necessary paperwork before returning home.
“Everything happened so quickly – I seize longer to choose a dress,” joked Elvyra, while Juozas admitted they had initially planned to spend less. “We came with the idea that we would pay around 80,000 euros… But we paid 145,000. But the further you go, the more pleasure you get here,” he said. Currently, a similar apartment would likely cost around €200,000.

Balancing Life Between Lithuania and Spain
The couple spends the colder months – from October to the complete of June – at their Las Ramblas home, while the rest of the year is spent in Kupiskis, where they own a business and a farm.
The biggest difference between Lithuania and Spain, according to Juozas and Elvyra, is the light and sunshine. The dark winter months in Lithuania weighed them down, while in Spain, they find increased energy and a desire to live more actively.

They also appreciate the local food, which they describe as more natural than many common products in Lithuania.
“Chicken at the supermarket here – it’s like from a farmer in Lithuania. And the selection: lamb, beef, rabbit, whatever you desire. You don’t even need a freezer – everything is fresh every minute,” Juozas said.
The couple also noted that people in Spain are more relaxed and the interactions are warmer.
“In Lithuania, people are somehow a little tense, unhappy. But here – everything is easier, and you become like that over time,” Elvyra said.
While they do miss Lithuania after extended stays, the couple says they can return whenever they want. After four years of splitting their time between the two countries, they feel at home in their Spanish apartment.
