A Lithuanian couple is finding that home renovation can be a powerful relationship builder, and a successful business venture. Greta and Mantvydas Lasevičiai are revitalizing abandoned properties in their hometown of Vilkaviškis, transforming them into modern homes.
The couple, who spent a decade living in Norway, returned to Lithuania with a unique idea: purchasing neglected real estate, renovating it to current standards, and then reselling it. This approach to property investment is gaining traction as a way to address housing needs and breathe latest life into communities.
“Before this business, our lives weren’t connected to real estate at all,” Greta Lasevičienė explained. “I worked as a nurse, and my husband drove a truck in logistics. We had no experience in the real estate sector, but we had a lot of desire, knowledge, and curiosity to learn. Maybe that’s why we took the plunge – we started with small steps, and today it’s our daily routine and a job that brings us a lot of joy.”
The idea for the business stemmed from Greta’s childhood fascination with home renovation shows. “I really enjoyed shows where old houses were completely renovated,” she said. When the time came to pursue her dream, a strong desire and other factors outweighed any fear of starting.
The couple’s venture isn’t without its challenges. They noted that neighbors often express concerns about the renovations, and projects frequently take longer than anticipated. Despite these hurdles, Greta and Mantvydas are successfully turning dilapidated buildings into desirable homes, demonstrating the potential of creative solutions in the real estate market.
