Goals from ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz in the first half proved decisive,despite a second-half response from Wolves’ Santiago Bueno. The result sees Liverpool surpass Chelsea into fourth place, while Wolves remain deep in relegation trouble with only two points earned through 18 matches this season.

Liverpool secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Anfield. The win propels Liverpool into the top four of the Premier League standings as the season heats up.
Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz found the back of the net for The Reds in the first half, while Santiago Bueno scored the lone goal for Wolves in the second.
The three points lift Liverpool to fourth place in the Premier League table with 32 points from 18 matches, surpassing Chelsea. Wolverhampton remains at the bottom of the league with just two points.

Match Highlights: Liverpool vs Wolverhampton
Liverpool came out firing, creating the first significant chance of the match in the 11th minute when Hugo Ekitike’s shot rattled the post.
Despite dominating possession, Liverpool initially struggled to break down a resilient Wolves defense. The visitors had a rare opportunity in the 18th minute, but Mateus Mane’s attempt was comfortably saved by Alisson Becker.
The breakthrough finally came in the 41st minute when Ryan Gravenberch slotted home a Jeremie Frimpong cross, giving Liverpool the lead.

Just two minutes later, Liverpool doubled their advantage through Florian Wirtz. A quick counter-attack, initiated by Ekitike, culminated in a through ball that Wirtz calmly finished.
Wirtz received the pass and easily placed it past the keeper, marking his first goal in a Liverpool shirt.

The score remained 2-0 heading into halftime.
Wolves pulled one back seven minutes after the restart through Santiago Bueno. Alisson Becker initially parried the ball, but Bueno was quick to pounce on the rebound.

Wirtz had a chance to extend Liverpool’s lead in the 60th minute, but his shot from the edge of the box sailed wide.
In the 65th minute, Jones nearly scored, but his attempt was denied by Jose Sa. Liverpool struggled to add to their tally for the remainder of the second half.
Wolves threatened again in the 74th minute with a counter-attack, but Alisson was equal to Mane’s 20-yard strike.
Liverpool held on for the 2-1 win, climbing into the top four.
