A newly elected official in Lombok Tengah, west Nusa tenggara, is generating buzz not for policy proposals, but for a remarkable namesake. Dono, a member of the PKS party now serving on the RegencyS DPRD, shares a name wiht the iconic indonesian comedy group, Dono Kasino Indro-a coincidence drawing considerable attention as he fills a seat vacated following corruption allegations. A newly appointed member of the Lombok Tengah Regency Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is drawing attention due to a striking coincidence: his name is identical to that of the legendary Indonesian comedy trio, Dono Kasino Indro.
Dono, a PKS (Prosperous Justice Party) legislator, officially took office after replacing a colleague who was implicated in a corruption case. The name is a direct reference to the beloved comedic group Warkop DKI, known throughout Indonesia.
Dono secured his position after receiving the second-highest number of votes in the simultaneous elections held in 2024, according to official results. He filled the seat vacated by Mahrup, who is facing corruption charges.

Mahrup is accused of involvement in the corruption of a credit program for small and medium-sized enterprises (KUR) administered by Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) between 2021 and 2022.
According to data from the General Elections Commission (KPU), Dono received a total of 2,519 votes from voters in the PKS party. He ran in electoral district 3 of Lombok Tengah, encompassing the Pujut and Praya Timur sub-districts. He trailed Mahrup, who garnered 4,385 votes.
Dono was 37 years old when he first ran for DPRD in his hometown. His highest level of education completed was high school in 2007.
His most recent employment, from 2021 to 2022, was as a heavy equipment operator, a position he held for one year. Dono’s only listed organizational experience is as Chairman of the Martak Village Farmers Group.
DetikBali reported that Dono comes from a farming background, as do his parents.
“My background is as a farmer, and the son of a farmer,” Dono Kasino Indro stated briefly during the swearing-in ceremony for the interim replacement at the Lombok Tengah DPRD office on Monday, December 1.
