Lithuania’s annual “LT Game Jam” event saw a record number of game prototypes submitted this year, signaling continued growth in the country’s burgeoning game development sector. The event, a key fixture in the gaming industry calendar, concluded on February 1, 2026, after a weekend of intensive creation.

This year’s iteration of the Global Game Jam, held January 30 – February 1 in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, and Panevėžys, also offered a virtual participation option via a dedicated Discord server. The competition challenges developers to create a functioning game prototype within a 48-hour timeframe.

Organizers of the global event place significant emphasis on selecting a theme that is both accessible and open to interpretation, while carefully vetting it to avoid cultural insensitivity. The process ensures the theme resonates across diverse international markets.

The theme for 2026 was “Masks,” inspiring many participants to incorporate game mechanics centered around the concept of disguise and hidden identities. Developers also explored broader interpretations of the word “mask,” moving beyond literal representations.

“LT Game Jam 2026” achieved a new milestone for the Lithuanian event, with a total of 113 game prototypes submitted to the global event website globalgamejam.org – exceeding last year’s numbers. The Kaunas location, hosted at KTU Santakos Slėnis, also broke records, attracting 111 game creators. All submissions from this year and previous years are available on the Global Game Jam website, filtered by Lithuanian location. Video clips showcasing the games can be viewed on the Lithuanian Game Developers Association’s YouTube channel.

In addition to the standard 48-hour development sprint, the event included introductory workshops hosted by Unity at the National Library of Lithuania in Vilnius. These sessions, led by Unity mentors, enabled novice developers to create a game prototype in just a few hours, and the Lithuanian Game Developers Association plans to offer similar opportunities at future events.

“LT Game Jam 2026” was organized by the Lithuanian Game Developers Association, with partial funding from the Lithuanian Culture Council.
